Lazlo

The Justiciar

Lazlo is a high-durability Shell built around Heat, Retribution, and close-range area damage. He builds pressure while his armor is active, then can trigger Overheat for a stronger Burn-inflicting shockwave that temporarily disables that protection. He suits players who want to switch deliberately between a defensive state and a vulnerable burst state.

Lazlo Overview

Retribution heats Lazlo’s armor while releasing a shockwave around him. Repeated activations build toward Overheat, where the stronger shockwave applies Burn but sends the armor into a temporary disabled state.

Fortified Plate supplies the protected side of that rhythm, while Heat-dependent Bond passives such as Furnace reward reaching and holding full Heat. Lazlo is not only a tank: his defining choice is when to exchange armor protection for an area-damage burst.

Lazlo Abilities

Retribution

Active Shell Ability

Lazlo heats his armor and releases a shockwave. Repeated use leads to an Overheated version that applies Burn and temporarily disables the armor.

Gameplay meaning

Use it to damage nearby enemies and drive the defensive-to-burst Heat cycle.

Fortified Plate

Passive Shell Ability

Lazlo gains baseline damage reduction while his armor is active.

Gameplay meaning

It forms the dependable defensive side of the cycle and is unavailable while the armor is disabled.

Heat

Resource / Meter

Retribution activations raise Lazlo’s Heat Meter, which supports his Overheat trigger and several conditional Bond passives.

Gameplay meaning

Build and monitor Heat so the stronger state is available when the fight offers a safe opportunity.

Overheat

State / Trigger

An Overheated Retribution releases the stronger Burn-inflicting shockwave and temporarily disables Lazlo’s armor.

Gameplay meaning

It trades Lazlo’s protection for an area burst and creates a temporary vulnerable interval.

Furnace

Bond Passive / Full-Heat Conditional

Furnace is a later Bond passive that becomes active while Lazlo’s Heat Meter is full and reinforces his full-Heat benefits.

Gameplay meaning

It rewards maintaining full Heat; it is not a base active ability and does not generate Heat.

How to Play Lazlo

Use Retribution at close range to damage nearby enemies and raise Heat while Lazlo’s armor and Fortified Plate remain active. The protected phase gives you room to hold position and prepare the next decision rather than immediately consuming every Heat opportunity.

Trigger Overheat when enemies are grouped, staggered, or unable to punish the armor-down interval. Once the stronger shockwave fires, either use the opening decisively or reposition until the armor returns. Lazlo’s skill test is choosing when to stop being durable, not simply absorbing every hit.

  1. Enter the armored state
  2. Build Heat with Retribution
  3. Read the enemy opening
  4. Trigger the Overheated shockwave
  5. Manage the armor-down window
  6. Reset when armor returns

Practical Tips

  • Use normal Retribution activations to build Heat before committing to Overheat.
  • Save the stronger shockwave for grouped or temporarily vulnerable enemies.
  • Watch Lazlo’s armor state as closely as the Heat Meter.
  • During the armor-down interval, attack only if the opening is safe; otherwise reposition.
  • Remember that Furnace contributes at full Heat but does not generate Heat itself.

Strengths & Trade-offs

Strengths

  • Large health pool

Lazlo has the health and armor support for sustained close-range pressure.

  • Armored protection

Fortified Plate reduces incoming damage while Lazlo’s armor remains active.

  • Area control

Retribution damages nearby enemies instead of requiring a single-target line.

  • Burn burst

Overheated Retribution adds Burn to its stronger area shockwave.

Trade-offs

  • Armor-down window

Overheat temporarily removes the protection central to Lazlo’s defensive state.

  • Timing dependent

Triggering Overheat at the wrong moment can expose Lazlo to an immediate counterattack.

  • Conditional support

Furnace and other Heat-linked benefits require their meter conditions to be met.
