How to Reach The Nameless Captive

First visit

Recommended First-time Route

This is a recommended first-time route through Prisoner’s Domain. Internal exploration can vary, but the route below keeps the required progression chain clear.

  1. Reach Nochtean Gate.

  2. If the white entrance is still blocked, complete the corruption-clearing route through the Abandoned Shrine and defeat Vrago, Solikar Champion.

  3. Enter Prisoner’s Domain and continue through Prisoner’s Way.

  4. Reach and activate Slumwater Drain.

  5. Continue through the mud-cave and lift route.

  6. Defeat Tishina’s Confessor, a separate miniboss encounter on the route to the final boss area.

  7. Activate Executioner’s Pulpit as the internal pre-fight checkpoint.

  8. Return toward the final platform. The nearby Rupturing Stone is an optional pickup, not a boss reward.

  9. Cross the wooden beam and drop into the pit to trigger the cutscene and begin the fight.

Arena Trigger

From the final platform, cross the wooden beam and drop into the pit. A cutscene plays and the boss fight begins.

Activate Executioner’s Pulpit before entering. The Rupturing Stone near the final platform is optional and is not one of the boss’s rewards.

How to Beat The Nameless Captive

The Nameless Captive is a close-range melee boss built around readable sword strings and Perfect Guard or parry opportunities. Its multi-hit headspins are the main spacing check.

The fight has two broad phases. Learn the normal sword pressure first, keep room to retreat, and treat Peter’s Perfect Parry as a separate challenge from simply winning.

Fight structure

Phases

Phase 1

The first phase centers on a four-swing sword combo and repeated ground strikes. Readable non-red attacks can create Perfect Guard or parry opportunities.

Transition

A scripted transition is followed by a fast propeller-style multi-hit headspin. This fast transition spin is not the target for Peter’s Perfect Parry.

Phase 2

The second phase continues the core sword pressure and adds the slower seven-hit headspin used for Peter’s Perfect Parry.

Readable cues

Attacks & Counters

Four-swing sword combo

Cue
A sequence of sword sweeps with delayed later hits.
Safe response
Perfect Guard or parry the readable non-red hits only when you can follow the timing; otherwise create distance.

Repeated ground strikes

Cue
The first impact can be followed by another ground strike.
Safe response
Do not rush in after the first hit. Watch for the follow-up or leave the attack area before punishing.

Transition propeller spin

Cue
A fast multi-hit headspin follows the scripted transition.
Safe response
For a normal clear, leave its range quickly. Trying to parry this version is a high-risk optional play.

Seven-hit Phase 2 headspin

Cue
A slower seven-hit headspin appears later in the second phase.
Safe response
Back away when your goal is simply to win. For Peter’s Perfect Parry, use the Untarnished Seal and Perfect Guard all seven hits in the same sequence.
Decision framework

Core Strategy

  • Fight near the middle when possible so a wall does not remove your escape route.
  • Learn the normal sword strings first and only parry attacks you can reliably read.
  • Keep enough room to disengage from both headspins, then punish after a confirmed combo recovery.
  • Treat Peter’s Perfect Parry as a separate challenge goal from defeating the boss.

Peter’s Perfect Parry

Optional achievement challenge

Equip the Untarnished Seal and Perfect Guard all seven hits of the slower Phase 2 headspin in one sequence. The achievement unlocks on the seventh successful guard; defeating the boss is not required.

  • Use the Untarnished Seal.
  • Wait for the slower seven-hit headspin later in Phase 2, not the fast transition spin.
  • Perfect Guard all seven hits during the same sequence.

If the boss is still alive, wait for the move again or restart from Executioner’s Pulpit. After the boss is defeated, the challenge is normally unavailable for the rest of that playthrough and can be attempted again in New Game Plus.

The Nameless Captive is in Prisoner’s Domain in Fainweald. Enter the area through Nochtean Gate, then follow the internal route toward the final platform.

How do you reach The Nameless Captive for the first time?

Use the recommended route from Nochtean Gate through Prisoner’s Way, Slumwater Drain, the mud-cave and lift route, and Tishina’s Confessor. Activate Executioner’s Pulpit, then cross the wooden beam and drop into the pit.

Which checkpoint should you use before the fight?

Activate Executioner’s Pulpit. It is the internal pre-fight checkpoint used for short retry runs back to the final platform and arena pit.

Is Tishina’s Confessor required?

Tishina’s Confessor is an important separate miniboss encounter on the recommended first-time route to the final boss area. Tishina is not a phase of The Nameless Captive.

Is The Nameless Captive required to finish the game?

It is one of six Corrupted Gate Major Bosses, which can be challenged in a flexible order. The boss rewards Captive’s Scabstone, an Ability Tarstone related to the Great Martyr’s Blade. Defeating the boss also awards Headcase and leads to the Captive’s End progression outcome.

Can you summon Eredrim for The Nameless Captive?

Yes. Spend 1 Glimpse at the summon point near the final platform to unlock Eredrim as optional support for this fight. Eredrim is not required to enter the arena or win.
